What’s it all about
During CVSA International Roadcheck, law enforcement across the United States, Canada and Mexico will be out at weigh stations, inspection sites and on patrol, checking trucks and drivers to make sure everything’s up to code.
Why should I care?
International Roadcheck inspections could make or break your day. Pass and you get a three-month CVSA decal. But if an out-of-service violation is identified, you may be forced to correct the violation before being allowed to leave, which can cost time (and money!) making the repair or even waiting for road service.
So it’s smart business to be ready for the two focus areas.
Focus area 1: Hours-of-Service (HOS)
Inspectors will examine HOS logs for accuracy. Tips for drivers and teams to prep:
- Check your logs before hitting the road – ensure entries are accurate and complete
- Certify daily logs and confirm they’re updated
- Carry your ELD instruction sheet for quick access
- Keep 8 blank logs in the truck as a backup in case of ELD issues
HOS pro tip: Organized and accurate records reduce delays during inspections.
Focus area 2: Tire condition
Tires will be closely checked for tread depth, inflation and damage. Stay ahead with these steps:
- Check tire pressure pre-trip, as driving and temperature change levels.
- Monitor tread depth – don’t wait for it to hit DOT minimums. Replace proactively.
- Inspect for damage or uneven wear, and include all major grooves in your review.
- Fix issues early to avoid problems on the road.
The tire condition big picture: Healthy tires boost control, compliance and fuel efficiency.
What to do now:
- Drivers and support staff should coordinate now for smooth inspections.
- Stay proactive with pre-trip checks and communication to avoid surprises.

Bottom Line:
CVSA’s International Roadcheck is a yearly reminder that road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Plan, prepare and work together for a safer drive.
