CRST recently announced internally its plan to redeploy a portion of its Capacity Solutions OTR fleet to other divisions. OTR remains an important part of CRST’s operations, including in our asset-light (van and flatbed), brokerage and dedicated divisions.
Unfortunately, this news was inaccurately reported by FreightWaves as though CRST was closing down all of its OTR operations; this misinformation was subsequently re-posted in other forums.
This couldn’t be further from the truth.
We contacted FreightWaves after its initial reporting, and the site has retracted the story and issued an apology.
Here’s the whole story.
What’s happening
All told, this move will shift 100 trucks to other parts of our business; approximately 200 trucks will be removed from our fleet (of more than 4,300). This change represents less than 4% of our total logistics portfolio.
This decision is intended to strengthen our ability to serve customers through the solutions that drive the most value, reliability and long-term stability.
Regrettably, this will result in headcount reductions. Nationwide, over 300 employees are impacted, and yesterday we provided a 60-day notice to those affected, a large portion of whom are our drivers. Our goal is to work with them to provide alternative driving opportunities within our other fleets.
How we’re doing
Amid a continuing turbulent market, CRST recently marked our most successful quarter since 2022, which demonstrates our long-term stability and continued investment in our people and our customers.
CRST’s diversified transportation and logistics portfolio include:
- One of the nation’s largest dedicated fleets
- Specialized high-touch, high-value shipping with one of the lowest claim rates in the business
- Industry-leading final mile home delivery
- One of our country’s largest agent- and contractor-backed OTR flatbed and van fleet
- A growing brokerage footprint
The bottom line
With 70 proud years in trucking, CRST is committed to evolving with our customer needs and industry changes. We look forward to a bright future ahead.
